art buddies are sO IMPORTANT

Back in the day, Walter would, every once in a while, forget how to draw. Remember?" Louise said.

“Oh yeah,” Walter agreed. “That still happens occasionally.”

“It’s like, ‘Oh my god, nothing I’m drawing looks any good anymore. My life is over as an artist.’ And what I realized, because I was an editor at the time, and had seen a lot of work go past me, was that when you hit this phase where suddenly your stuff, which looks just like it did yesterday, doesn’t look good to you anymore, it’s because your mind has made a leap. Your brain has gotten farther than your hand has learned to do it yet. But eventually, give it a few weeks, keep it up and you’ve made a leap in your own craft. That was a big help because it was so depressing when you realize you couldn’t draw anymore.

A new Band Vs. Band! I remember discussing this with someone like three years ago, really early in the comic: Honey Hart totally believes in the virtue of School on some basic level, but didn’t know and wouldn’t have guessed that the longest-staying-in-school person she (kinda) knows is one of the Sourballs.

Bronycon's only a few days away! Are you all set? Will you have enough copies of Winter #1 and Adorable Mini Adventures ready to sell? :D

I hope so! I have a few boxes of comics to sell.

Ooh, you’ve got a table? Where’re you selling?

Wherever they’re going to have us IDW people! We should all be in one area!

Yous guys are supposed to be at 522. You’ll have a lot more room this year, that’s for sure. :V

I’ve had this is my mind since I first saw Skelita Calaveras’ name on her packaging haha. I remember seeing it and thinking, no way, is that the same name?? me and my gf were so excited. It turns out their names are different by one letter… but whatever, I can imagine it ;P

Book of Dreams was one of Steve Miller’s most popular albums, and its iconic album art by Alton Kelley and Stanley Mouse was a big part of that. The rainbow-winged pegasus grew into an icon for the band, and anyone who sees it will remember fondly the sounds of Jet Airliner, Swingtown, Jungle Love, Winter Time, The Stake, and more. Rainbow Dash fills in for the iconic pegasus in this ponified version of a rock and roll classic. You might be thinking “Wait, I’ve seen this before!” and you’d be right. I drew the original Rainbow Dash Band back in 2011 when season two was barely. A while back, I had suffered a major data loss on my primary workstation. Although 95% my stuff was backed up (thankfully!), I had lost one or two original versions of some things I did. This piece was one of the few originals that bit the dust, which meant no high res prints to hang on my wall. While I am not a person to go back and re-do stuff that’s already done, even if I hadn’t lost this particular piece I probably would have given it the remastering treatment anyway. It had always bugged me that I kind of half-assed the original Rainbow Dash Band. I didn’t do the piping on the backing circle, I didn’t do the backing circle’s colors or clouds right, I didn’t add all the extra lighting effects that the original had, and most shameful, I didn’t hand-letter a proper title. If I was going to redo it, I was going to do it right, damn it. All of these issues have been fixed, especially the lettered titles which look just like the real deal and the elaborate piping inside the circle. I’m most proud of the piping, which adapts the FiM pegasus wings in place of Kelley and Mouse’s iconic beetles. While it’s not exactly perfect, it’s a lot better than the zero piping I did before. The new version is more respectful and true to the original classic, which is an inspiration to me as an artist.
